Colour of the Year 2019
„Living Coral” aka Pantone 16-1546 has been named colour of the year. Described as “buoyant, vibrant and effervescent”, which is predicted to dominate the design industry in 2019.
This year’s colour was announced last December by the company, Pantone. Pantone LLC is a U.S. corporation headquartered in Carlstadt, New Jersey. The company is best known for its Pantone Matching System (PMS), a proprietary color space used in a variety of industries, primarily printing, though sometimes in the manufacture of colored paint, fabric, and plastics.1
In the ’60s, with the help of The Pantone Color System the problem of complicated color matching in the printing industry had been solved.
Soon after, Pantone became the easiest and simplest way to classify, communicate and match colors with the use of a color catalog in a fan format. Every color, in every tone and tint was given a number to classify it.
For over 40 years, Pantone has been the go-to color matching system for not only the design industry but also paint, textile and plastic manufacturers.
In 2000, the Pantone Color Institute created the Pantone Color of the Year as a trendsetting concept for branding, marketing and creative society as a whole. The introduction of the Pantone Color of the Year confirmed The Pantone Color Institute as the front-runner for all things color related.
